UWR: My comeback is a threat to the NPP – Former Lawra MP

Former Member of Parliament for Lawra constituency, Mr. Samson Abu has stated that his comeback to the National Democratic Congress(NDC) will make it difficult for the Member of Parliament, Hon. Anthony Abaifa Karbo and the New Patriotic Party( NPP) in the Lawra constituency.

Mr. Samson Abu was MP for the Lawra constituency in 2012 on the ticket of the NDC and also served as DCE for Lawra District from 2009 to 2013 in the NDC administration.

He, however, broke away from the NDC and contested as an independent candidate in the 2016 parliamentary elections after losing in the party internal primaries prior to the 2016 elections.

The NDC frowned on his decision to contest as independent candidate and suspended him from the Party which disqualified him from the Party elections.

In an interview on the constituency watch on Home Radio, Mr. Samson Abu declared his return to offer his support for the NDC and the Parliamentary Candidate in the upcoming elections.

He explained that his return to the NDC is a threat for the NPP and the incumbent MP, Hon. Anthony Karbo ahead of the Dec 7 elections.

“My merger or come back to the party is a headache for the NPP, they should hit the ground running and is trouble”, he said.

The former Health Administrator also disclosed that he is appointed the campaign manager of his one time rival, Mr. Bede Zeiden, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Lawra Constituency.

The merger of the two camps according to Mr. Abu, will increase the chances of the NDC to recapture the Lawra Constituency seat.

In the 2016 elections, Anthony Karbo of the NPP had 8,704
(38.49%) to win the seat, the NDC candidate, Mr. Bede Zeiden obtained 7,476 (33.06%), and Mr. Samson Abu lost the seat with 5,651 as an independent candidate.
