Residents of Tankpo-Dambaali prohibit activities of cattle herdsmen

The Chief and landlords of Takpo -Dambaali under the Tankpo Electoral area in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region have publicly prohibited the activities of cattle herdsmen in the area.

This was disclosed in a petition written by the Chiefs and people and submitted to the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly and other relevant authorities such as the District Commander of Ghana Police Service, District Director of Agriculture, Cattle owners, and Assembly members.

The concerns enlisted in the petition according to Mr. Charles Buonbah are consistent with their fundamental human rights to life, livelihoods, and legitimately owned properties which have been threatened by the activities of cattle herdsmen in the area.

He lamented the negative effects of cattle grazing on farm crops such as Cassava, Yams, and cashews and economic trees like Shea and Dawa Dawa trees.

He mentioned that, several appeals and reports about the ravaging effects of cattle herdsmen in the area has been made to authorities but that nothing has been done to solve the situation.

He revealed that indiscriminate cattle grazing is prohibited henceforth, and that sanctions will be imposed on those who will fall short of the directive.

The restriction of cattle ranching, according to Naa Boggue Bayolo III, Chief of Tankpo-Dambaali, shall be handled in accordance with the law to protect lives and property.

He urged the residents to be law abiding by allowing victims to face the law.

The Assembly Member for Takpo Electoral area, Hon. Abudi Kyegnye assured the people that, the issues raised on the petition will be passed into by-laws and gazetted by the assembly to protect the area.
