A 20-year-old man, Nawaf Abdulai, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his involvement in a series of motorbike robberies that took place in early March. The ruling, delivered on April 7, 2025, by the Wa Circuit Court, marks the end of a swift investigation and trial led by the Upper West Regional Police Command.
The crimes occurred on March 6, 2025, when Abdulai, alongside an accomplice, Awal Abass—who remains at large—robbed victims of two motorbikes. The stolen vehicles, identified as a Haojue with registration number M-21-449 UW and a Luojia with registration number M-17-4607 UW, were taken in a bold daylight theft. Acting quickly, police arrested Abdulai at his residence just two days later, on March 8, 2025.
During the investigation, Abdulai confessed to his role in the robberies. The case was promptly brought before the Wa Circuit Court, where His Lordship Jonathan Avoogo presided. After reviewing the evidence, the court handed down a 15-year sentence, emphasizing the need to deter such criminal behavior in the region.
The Upper West Regional Police Command praised the efforts of its officers and thanked the public for their cooperation throughout the investigation. “This outcome reflects our commitment to maintaining law and order,” a police spokesperson said. “We will not relent in our efforts to ensure the safety and security of our communities.”
While Abdulai now faces a lengthy prison term, authorities continue their search for Awal Abass, urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward. The sentencing serves as a stern warning to would-be offenders, as the police reaffirm their resolve to crack down on crime in the Upper West Region.
