UWR: Regional Chief Imam Spends over Ghs64,500 on brilliant but needy students

The Upper West Regional Chief Imam, His Eminence Imam Alhaj Osman Mahama Kanihi has spent a whooping Sixty-Four Thousand Nine Hundred and Six Ghana Cedis Forty-One Pesewas (Ghs64,906.41) in the payment of school fees for brilliant but needy students for the 2023/2024 academic year.

The amount was expended through the Regional Chief Imam’s Educational Endowment Fund which was launched in October 2022.

At a press conference held at the forecourt of the Chief Imam’s Residence on the 31st of December, 2023, a list of twenty-seven(27) students was unveiled as the second batch of beneficiaries of the educational endowment fund created by the Regional Chief Imam.

According to the committee of the Fund, they received 44 applications from the public of which 41 were Muslims and 3 Christians.

The applicants met with the Evaluation and Assessment Committee which after assessment recommended 27 candidates for the second batch of beneficiaries.

The Upper West Regional Chief Imam Endowment Fund was established in October 2022 to provide scholarship opportunities every year to underprivileged students at various levels within the Region and Beyond.
