The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wa West, Madam Vida Diorotey, has denied allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Bureau regarding the misappropriation of District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment in the Wa West District Assembly.
On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Madam Diorotey addressed the issue on Home Radio network’s Sunrise Upper West Super Morning Show. The NDC had issued a press statement on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, urging the DCE to refrain from using the DRIP equipment for partisan politics, specifically alleging that the equipment had been handed over to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Hon. James Kpirfaatey, for campaign purposes.
According to Hon. Olinaa Ababaasa, Wa West Communication Officer of NDC, the program is solely sponsored by the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), as stated by the DACF Administrator, Naa Torshie, during the equipment’s commissioning.
Madam Diorotey clarified that the Wa West District Assembly had sent the equipment to Vieri to commence roadwork for the benefit of the Vieri community and other districts. However, fuel challenges delayed the start of the project. She emphasized that the DRIP equipment is intended for district development, aiming to improve roads for the district’s residents.
The DCE dismissed the NDC Communication Bureau’s claims, stating that such political propaganda hinders development and harms the district’s future. Madam Diorotey urged all parties to focus on the district’s development agenda, rather than engaging in mischief and propaganda.
