RT Hon. Alban Bagbin Lauds Top Party Hierarchy & John Mahama For Historic Speaker Of Parliament Slot

Evergreen political icon RT Hon. Alban S K Bagbin has thanked the NDC hierarchy and former President John Dramani Mahama for their support in presenting him to contest the historic Speakership election which he won He made this known when he took his turn to deliver a speech at the late president Rawlings’ memorial lecture organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The seasoned lawmaker shook off Rt Hon. Mike Ocquaye Snr, at a closely fought contest to become Ghana’s 13th speaker of Parliament

Having spent 28 years in Ghana’s Parliament, Rt Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin capped a remarkable political career with a seat at the Speaker of Parliament, from an opposition party.

In a charismatic message to his party stalwarts, the former Member of Parliament for Nadowli Kaleo constituency revealed having sleepless night on the eve of the election.

“It is through you that I have been brought up to be the speaker of parliament.

I had packed bag and baggage and I had just established Institute of Parliamentary Affairs Africa and got some of our professors to work with me. “

I was transiting into that to support the growth of democracy and the all of a sudden God smiled on me and used all of you led by HE John Dramani Mahama.

“I couldn’t sleep but some spirit descended on me that I was going to win.”

“That was why that day I promised you we would win this battle. I want to assure all of you again that the God who started it all, will accomplish it. Thank you”, he added.
