As part of his working visit to India, the Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Hon. Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, paid a visit to the Agricultural School of Engineering at Kaveri University to explore collaboration opportunities aimed at transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Joining him on the visit were Ghanaian businessman Chief Abdul Salam Selorm Morgan Agbotui, who is facilitating connections between Indian investors and Ghanaian institutions and Deputy CEO of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, Madam Samira Abdul-Azeez.
The discussions focused on how Ghana could tap into Kaveri University’s advanced agricultural engineering expertise to modernize its farming practices. The university shared insights on technology-driven solutions in areas such as precision farming, irrigation systems, and farm mechanization, which could significantly improve efficiency and productivity back home.
Dr. Pelpuo also explored opportunities for capacity-building programs tailored for Ghanaian farmers and agricultural professionals. These efforts are expected to support job creation in the sector while boosting economic growth through increased agricultural output and exports.
Agriculture remains Ghana’s largest employer, engaging over a third of the workforce many of whom are subsistence farmers. The minister noted that partnerships like this could play a vital role in enhancing food security, raising income levels, and transitioning the sector into a more modern and competitive space.
“This visit strengthens our resolve to seek meaningful collaborations that directly impact our people,” Dr. Pelpuo remarked. “We are eager to learn, adapt, and grow from partnerships that promise real transformation in Ghana’s agriculture.”
