UWR: 16-year-old girl needs GHC 70,000 to undergo kidney dialysis

A 16-year-old girl, Hana Kuumour, has been on admission to the Upper West Regional Hospital battling with a Kidney condition called “Nephrotic Syndrome” and needs GHC 70,000 to undergo Kidney Dialysis in the same facility.

The JHS 1 pupil who hails from a village called Gboriteng under Lassia Tuolo in Wa West District of the Upper West Region, needs urgent intervention to support her to undergo the required procedure.

According to a senior doctor at the dialysis unit, Dr. Kwabena Oppong, Nephrotic Syndrome is a condition with symptoms of swelling around the eyes and in the feet and ankles, foamy urine and weight gain due to excess fluid retention.

The Doctor added that, the condition of the girl has reached an urgent stage of “End-stage kidney disease (ESKD)”, which is the last stage of long-term (chronic) kidney disease. This is when your kidneys can no longer support your body’s needs. And End-stage kidney disease is also called end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Dr. Oppong however lamented on the stage of the girl condition and stated that ” the early we start for Hana, the better results we achieve”.

In conclusion, the doctor said the Hospital authorities rescinded their decision to discharge Hana from the facility because of the decision by the media to publish the predicament of the young girl for philanthropists to come to her aid.
