UWR: Police Fire Warning Shots as Wa SHTS students protest amid fire Outbreaks
The Ghana Police Services had to fire warning shots to disperse protesting students at Wa Senior High Technical School (Wa SHTS) on the night of Thursday, 26th January 2023.
The angry students attacked personnel of the Ghana National Fire service who were on the campus to attend to a fire outbreak in the school and went on a rampage through the school premises.
The scuffle led to the injury of some students who were rushed for medical treatment at some health centers in Wa.
The Thursday night fire was the third (3rd) fire incident recorded in the school within five (5 ) days.
The first fire incident broke out at the girl’s dormitory on Sunday night. On Monday the second fire outbreak was recorded before the Thursday night incident.
The first two fires displaced over 148 female students, while 14 were hospitalized.
The Thursday fire happened at one of the classrooms which served as a temporary hostel for the affected students of the first fire on Sunday.
The Ghana National Fire Services has however commenced an investigation to uncover the cause of the fires.
