JIRAPA MCE BEMOANS DECLINE IN BECE PERFORMANCE

The Jirapa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Nicholas N. Soyiri has bemoaned the decline in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in the municipality.

The MCE made these comments during the 66th Independence Day Celebration at the Jirapa Nayiri Park in the presence of various stakeholders.

Per the speech read by the MCE for Jirapa, he highlighted interventions he has made upon assumption of office within the educational sector. Some of which include:

According to him, the assembly supported the education directorate to organize mock examinations for 1,282 pupils in August, 2022 aimed at preparing the pupils for BECE.

He also mentioned the provision of 400 dual for selected desk and 75 hexagonal tables for some kindergartens.

Hon. Nicholas Soyiri Esq. also noted that in collaboration with the MP for the area, GH 120,400 was used to support students in both tertiary and pre- tertiary levels. The funds he said we’re from both the District Assemblies Common Fund and Internally Generated Funds.

These aforementioned achievements however left him a loss as to why the continuous decline in the BECE performance of pupils in the Jirapa municipality.

The MCE says, as part of a package to motivate pupils at the basic level to perform well in the BECE, he has initiated a scholarship scheme which would offer support for brilliant but needy students who get distinctions.

Jirapa municipality in the Upper West region of Ghana is one of educational hubs in the Upper West region. It’s however unclear why in recent times basic education is experiencing a significant decline.
