Mastermind PhotoAs part of efforts to promote the growth of the ICT Department at the Doctor Hilia Liman Technical University in Wa, the staff and students held the second edition of Departmental Forum at the University Conference Hall on April 21, 2023, under the theme: “Promoting the growth of ICT Department: The role of the stakeholders.”

The Departmental Forum is a platform created for stakeholders to meet and discuss matters concerning the Department and how to ensure its smooth running.

Addressing the gathering, the HoD, Mr. Rockson K. Afriyie, thanked the staff and the students for showing keen interest in the affairs of the Department.

He asked them to avail themselves of the opportunity, especially the first year students, to ask the numerous questions that may be bothering them.

The Head of Department first took the third years through guidelines of their final project work as they enter the last face of their studies at the University.

He outlined the main steps in preparing and presenting the final project work report and documentation.

He discussed with them how they would successfully complete their final project within the scheduled time.

He treated the steps involved in conducting their research and other details they need to acquaint themselves with to make their project works supervision easy for their supervisors.

The Forum saw many students asking academic-related questions and matters concerning the Department.

Some key issues discussed at the Forum were: Students Academic Advisors (SAA), Enrollment drive for 2023/2024 Academic Year, Community Service, Department Visibility, Industrial Visit, Technology Week Celebration, Department research/project work and ATUITS activities, among others.

There were numerous suggestions from the students’ front that they believe can help the Department to achieve its vision of becoming the first choice for potential applicants looking for ICT training.

The students also asked pertinent questions about the Department and got quick response and detailed answers from staff.

A staff member, Mr. Richard Osei-Sakyi, advised the students to be devoted to Community and voluntary Services (CVS). He entreated them to network within and outside the Department while in the University. According to him, networking is essential since it has the potential to link them up in the job market in future.

Mr Afriyie, since last year has introduced many initiatives and programmes to get the students and other stakeholders directly involved in running the affairs of the ICT Department.
