Ghana’s Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Rashid Pelpuo, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to international collaboration in the fight against child labour following a bilateral meeting with Turkey’s Minister of Labour.
The high-level talks took place on the sidelines of the International Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour, currently underway in Morocco.
Discussions centred on deepening cooperation between Ghana and Turkey in areas such as policy exchange, capacity building, labour inspections, and the promotion of decent work as a long-term strategy to eliminate child labour.
Hon. Pelpuo stressed the importance of strong cross-border partnerships to tackle the root causes of child labour, including poverty, limited access to quality education, and the dominance of informal employment. He noted that coordinated global action is essential to protect vulnerable children and ensure they have access to education and social protection systems.
Both ministers expressed their readiness to strengthen bilateral engagement and explore technical cooperation initiatives aimed at enhancing labour administration systems and safeguarding the rights and welfare of children.
The International Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour has brought together governments, employers’ and workers’ representatives, and development partners to accelerate global efforts to end child labour in all its forms.
