PNC Disputes Alleged Declaration of Support for Sissala East NPP Candidate

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has swiftly debunked claims of a purported declaration of support by its Sissala East Constituency executives for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate ahead of the 2024 elections. In an official statement released on October 21, 2024, the party dismissed the declaration as “illegal, baseless, null, void, and of no effect from the standpoint of the party’s structure and organization.”

According to the statement signed by PNC General Secretary, Awudu Issahaque , the leadership of the party remains fully engaged in its ongoing legal battle with the Electoral Commission over the disqualification of its Presidential Candidate for the 2024 elections. This battle, according to the party, is crucial to securing its participation in the upcoming general elections on December 7, 2024.

The PNC further expressed its outrage at any unilateral decision by party members to support another party’s candidate without consulting its leadership, calling such acts “indiscipline, dishonesty, and disloyalty.” The statement reiterated that any form of alliance or endorsement within the party must be sanctioned by the National Executive Committee (NEC), referring to a similar incident in 2008 where internal support influenced the outcome of elections between the NPP and NDC.

“It is therefore preposterous, ill-fated, and untenable for anyone or group of persons within the party to unilaterally and arbitrarily commit the party to supporting another party or its candidate without recourse to the leadership. This smacks of indiscipline, dishonesty, and disloyalty,” the statement emphasized.

In response to this unauthorized declaration, the party announced disciplinary measures targeting the Sissala East Constituency Chairman and Secretary, who are alleged to have been behind the endorsement. These officials are to be brought before the Disciplinary Committee to answer for their actions, with the intention of maintaining order and deterring similar conduct in the future.

The PNC’s statement appealed to its supporters and members in the Sissala East Constituency to disregard the declaration, describing it as misleading. The party called for unity and commitment as it intensifies efforts towards the 2024 elections.

“The PNC implores its executives, supporters, and sympathizers in the Sissala East Constituency to ignore and disregard the so-called declaration made on Saturday the 19th of October, 2024, and rather remain steadfast and hopeful as the party navigates its way to campaign and participate in the 2024 elections,” concluded Awudu Issahaque.

This firm stand by the PNC signals its resolve to protect the integrity of its internal processes while ensuring discipline and loyalty from its members as they prepare for a critical election period.
