The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has described the Sheapark Resource Hub as a strategic development initiative capable of transforming the Upper West Region while making a meaningful contribution to Ghana’s economic growth.
Addressing participants at the official launch of the Sheapark Resource Hub in Wa on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Speaker Bagbin said the project is aimed at revitalizing the regional economy by harnessing its abundant natural and human resources and converting them into sustainable economic ventures.
He explained that the initiative is anchored in a comprehensive development blueprint titled “Revealing Potential Pathways for Socio-Economic Development, 2025 and Beyond.” The document, he noted, was developed through broad consultations involving experts, traditional leaders, government representatives and community members.
According to Speaker Bagbin, the blueprint positions shea as a key driver of economic growth, supported by complementary products such as dawadawa, neem, baobab, cotton, legumes, cereals and livestock.
He further stated that the plan outlines how shea can serve as a central pillar for stimulating economic expansion in the Upper West Region and Northern Ghana as a whole. It also identifies investment opportunities and proposes the development of a new urban area equipped with modern infrastructure to support commercial and industrial activities.
“We are not here to impress the world with an expensive launch only to abandon the project,” Speaker Bagbin emphasized. “This is a serious undertaking, and we are committed to seeing it through.”
He added that the Sheapark Resource Hub is a collaborative effort that brings together government, traditional authorities, the private sector, development partners and the media, stressing that collective commitment is key to its success.
