Wa Municipal health director urges parents to get kids Vaccinated for polio

Dr. Alex Bapula, Municipal Health Director for the Ghana Health Service in the Upper West Region, has pleaded with Chiefs, stakeholders, caregivers, and parents to help make sure that children under the age of five years receive the polio vaccine beginning on September 1 and running through September 4, 2022.

Dr. Alex Bapula stated during a Thursday, September 1, 2022 interaction with the media that the goal of this immunization exercise is to immunize all children under the age of five or 0 to 59 months in the Municipality against polio in order to prevent and eradicate the disease in the nation.

He claims that there is an outbreak of polio in various areas of the nation and that immunization is essential to containing the situation in Ghana.

He said that in order to achieve the goal of getting all children immunized at the end of the activity, the message’s dissemination to involve all stakeholders in this exercise is very important.

Insisting that there are no adverse reactions to the vaccine for youngsters, Dr. Bapula reassured parents and guardians that the vaccine is safer and risk-free.

Technical teams and medical professionals, he claimed, are on call to handle any adverse reactions to the immunization of this child.

On the 6th through the 9th of October 2022, the second round of the polio vaccination will be administered once more, and parents and guardians are urged to remember the date and schedule another appointment for their children.

However, he urged everyone in the municipality—in particular, chiefs and family leaders—to take immunization seriously and to educate parents about the need for the vaccination to protect all children under the age of five.

Poliomyelitis, sometimes known as polio, is a fatal and crippling condition brought on by the poliovirus. The virus transmits from person to person and has the potential to infect the spinal cord, which would result in paralysis.
