The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) has fined Boli Water Board for tampering with the company’s meter and engaging in illegal connections.
In a letter signed by the area manager Mr. Eugene Odoi Addo cited by Homeradio news.com, the community’s Water Board was asked to immediately pay a fine or face prosecution.
Boli Water Board was constituted to supervise the operation of a water supply system at Boli, a farming community in Wa Municipal in the Upper West Region.
In their routine patrols, the team visited the community on 22nd March, 2020 and detected that they have illegally disconnected the meter supplying power to the water system.
The patrol team immediately disconnected the water system from the national grid and fined the board to pay GH¢ 4,159 for unaccounted power, administrative and reconnection fees.
With no power supply to the Water System, residents said they are faced with acute shortage of water. They told Homeradionews.com that the shortage is disrupting their economic and social activities.
They are now depending on wells and dugouts that are dotted across the community but according to them, water drawn from the wells is inadequate and not portable.
