Upper West Regional Minister Engages Media in Fight Against Illegal Weapons

The Upper West Regional Minister, Lawyer Charles Lwanga Puozuing, Esq., has underscored the crucial role the media plays in promoting regional security and combating the proliferation of illegal weapons. In a meeting with media practitioners in Wa, the Minister briefed them on the upcoming Gun Amnesty Program, a government initiative aimed at encouraging citizens to voluntarily surrender unregistered firearms without fear of prosecution.

The program is part of a broader strategy to curb gun-related crimes and violence in the region and beyond. Minister Puozuing emphasized the importance of collaboration between stakeholders, particularly the media, in sensitizing the public about the objectives and benefits of the initiative. He noted that the media’s influence and reach make it an essential partner in educating communities about the need to surrender unregistered weapons.

“The media’s ability to reach every household is essential for the success of this program,” the Minister stated. “With your support in disseminating this message, we can effectively reduce gun violence, not only in our beloved Upper West Region but across the country at large.”

The Minister expressed gratitude to the media fraternity for their commitment to public education and peacebuilding, urging them to use their platforms responsibly to promote safety and civic responsibility. He is confident that a strong partnership with the media will lead to a safer and more secure Upper West Region.

The Gun Amnesty Program is a critical step towards ensuring lasting peace and security in the region. By working together, the government and media can educate citizens on the importance of voluntarily surrendering illegal firearms and promote a culture of peace and safety.

The Upper West Regional Minister’s engagement with the media is a welcome step in the fight against illegal weapons. By partnering with the media, the government can reach a wider audience and encourage more people to surrender their unregistered firearms, ultimately making the region a safer place for all.
