Mary Haruna has been confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Nadowli-Kaleo District following a decisive vote by the district assembly members on Monday. The confirmation marks a significant turnaround for Haruna, who was previously rejected for the same position in April.
In the latest vote, Haruna secured an overwhelming 90.1% approval, with 46 assembly members voting “Yes,” 5 voting “No,” and 1 vote rejected. Her confirmation comes after President John Mahama renominated her for the role, demonstrating confidence in her ability to lead the district.
Haruna, a prominent figure in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency, currently serves as the Women’s Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area. Her extensive grassroots engagement and leadership within the party have been cited as key factors in her strong support during the recent vote.
Her confirmation has been met with optimism by many residents, who hope her leadership will bring renewed focus on infrastructure, education, and economic development in the district.
However, some observers note that her previous rejection may require her to work diligently to unify the assembly and build trust among all stakeholders.
The Nadowli-Kaleo District, located in the Upper West Region, has faced challenges such as inadequate road networks and limited access to healthcare and education. Haruna’s tenure as DCE will be closely watched as she takes on these pressing issues.
With her confirmation now secured, Mary Haruna is poised to lead Nadowli-Kaleo into a new chapter of development, backed by strong community and political support.
