The celebration of Eid is often characterised with sharing of food with love ones and friends and the elite normally use the period to put smiles on the faces of the poor who cannot afford basic square meals.
It is with this thought that the Wa Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Access Bank donated food items to widows at Wa Zongo ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr which is expected to be celebrated on May 24, 2020.
The food items donated included bags of rice(15), frytol oil (7 boxes), tomato paste(8 boxes), mackerel(8), T-rolls (2 packs), liquid soap (12 gallons) carbolic soap (2 boxes) and a box of hand sanitizers.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Issahaku Tahiru Moomin revealed that the assembly requested Access Bank to collaborate with them to help the needy during this period which they have supported with the items.
“We are aware families have been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Livelihoods are affected and we are supporting the vulnerable to make this year’s celebration possible.”
Assembly Member for Zongo Electoral Area, Hon. Adinan Saeed thanked the MCE and its partners for extending such benevolence to the area and called on the general public to look at supporting poor in the society.
A beneficiary, Madam Magret Kagminaa was also full of praise to the Assembly saying “some of us have lost our spouses and our relatives has abandoned us; causing a lot of difficulty in our survival.”
