The Member of Parliament for Wa East, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, has supported forty-two Junior High School leavers with one thousand Ghana cedis (GHC1000) each under his JHS Leavers Bursary Support Programme.

The support is to help the students buy essential items as they begin their studies in Senior High Schools and Technical Institutes in the region.

Presenting the bursary support on behalf of the MP, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Adamu Sayibu, explained that the decision to give cash instead of items such as mattresses and chop boxes was deliberate.

According to him, most of the Senior High schools in the region already have enough mattresses, and the cash will give parents and students flexibility to meet their own needs.

Hon. Sayibu said the MP is supporting students with aggregates between six and thirty, adding that the gesture is meant to reward performance and motivate others to study harder.

He revealed that the MP had initially sought to support students with aggregates between six and fifteen to encourage enrolment in top Senior High Schools across the country, but the Ghana Education Service could not provide such names because the candidates obtained grades outside the grade band the MP requested. So the MP settled for a performance based bursary support for JHS leavers who obtained aggregate 6-30. GES-Wa East presented 42 names. All forty-two(42) have received their cash support and poised to go to school.

While encouraging all beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and make Wa East proud, the DCE was however quick to add that if anyone who has a ward with aggregates within the stipulated threshold of six to thirty should immediately contact the headmaster of his or her JHS and submit the details for onwards submission to the education directorate of Wa East.

The Jasaw’s JHS Leavers Bursary Support Programme forms part of Dr. Jasaw’s continuous efforts to promote education and empower young people in the constituency.
