National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer for the 2024 Presidential Ghana Elections, John Dramani Mahama, has stated that should his party be voted into power, the SSNIT Sports Emporium, popularly known as the Bukom Boxing Arena, will be “fully activated”.
He said this in his address at a rally held at the Arena recently on the latest leg of his campaign in the lead up to the December Polls.
The multipurpose sports edifice was commissioned in 2016 and has over the years held boxing bouts including those in the 2023 African Games.
Despite its extensive use over the years, John Mahama, a former President of Ghana, has indicated that the facility hasn’t been fully activated yet.
“This arena is not just this oval, it is a complex. There is a gym, there is a hostel, there is a restaurant, there is a school so that even when the young people are training as boxers, they can be attending classes so that they don’t miss schools… Unfortunately, it hasn’t realized its’ full potential and it is something we still have in mind that we will fully activate it.”
“Bukom is the headquarters of Ghana boxing and so the intention is to bring other talents from all over the country to come and join their colleagues here to train as boxers.”
