MP for Wa West Visits Paramount Chiefs in Constituency

On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu, the recently re-elected Member of Parliament for Wa West, paid a courtesy visit to the two paramount chiefs in the Wa West Constituency of the Upper West region. This visit aligns with the tradition that emphasizes consulting elders for advice, support, and wisdom to ensure success.

The purpose of the visit was to express gratitude to the chiefs for their moral support during his re-election campaign and to seek their blessings for the upcoming general elections. Hon. Toobu also introduced himself as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency and discussed his plans and vision for the district’s development.


Accompanied by Constituency Chairman Mr. Mathew Vaari and other party executives, the MP first visited the Dorimon Naa Palace, where he was received by Naa Alhaji Seidu Tungbani Salinbile II, Paramount Chief of the Dorimon Traditional Council. He then proceeded to visit Naa Alhaji Imoro Nandomy-Gomah II, President of the Wechiau Traditional Council.

Hon. Lanchene expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to the district’s development. He highlighted the importance of peace and unity, particularly in resolving chieftaincy and land disputes, and sought the chiefs’ ongoing support and blessings.

In response, Naa Alhaji Seidu Tungbani Salinbile II thanked the MP for the visit and outlined several challenges facing the traditional area, including the need for refurbishment of the Dorimon Naa Palace, improvements to the Dorimon-Wa road, and job opportunities for the youth. He also requested the establishment of a district in the constituency if the NDC wins the upcoming elections.

Naa Alhaji Imoro Nandomy-Gomah II also expressed his happiness at the visit and thanked the MP. He appealed for the absorption of the Wechiau Community Self-Initiative Day SHS School into the government system and called for peaceful and respectful campaigning during the general elections.
