KALEO LASSARIANS PRIM PUPILS FACED WITH NO FURNITURE MENANCE, FORCED TO LIE POSTRATE IN CLASSROOMS

The menace of non availability of furniture in schools in Ghana has become so common to the extent that it is even experienced in some urban areas.

This is the exact case in point as Dapare Albert of Home Radio visited a school in Kaleo, an urban community in the Nadowli-Kaleo district of the Upper West region.

The school, which has a Kindergarten block and Primary Block, with a staff strength of ten (10) and a pupil population of (212), was established in 2014 and since then no renovation nor assistance in terms of furniture has been received.

Albert Dapare reports that there exist no furniture in any of the classrooms without a fault. Some of the classrooms have no furniture at all whereas those with some two to three pieces of furniture records pupils falling off from.

The rest are usually found lying on the bare floor prostrate.

Speaking to the assembly Member for Kaleo West, Hon. Solomon Antuona, he said that the problems of the school are numerous but that it’s difficult to levy parents due to the poverty levels.

“I have pleaded with some influential persons from Kaleo and they pledged to assist when they are financially sound. I’ve also informed the DCE who promised that as and when furniture is available we will be allocated some” the Assembly Member told Home Radio News.

Meanwhile Gyiili Francisca, a pupil in class five (5) stated that they lack furniture and that’s why they lie on the floor. She accordingly bemoaned how they have to buy soap daily to wash their clothes since they are always dirty. On his part, Senior Prefect (SP) for the school, Yelewaana Ruben, appealed to the government to come to their aide.

As of the time Home Radio news visited the school, there was a PTA meeting ongoing at which parents and guardians came together to brainstorm on how to tackle the challenges of Kaleo Lassarian primary school.
