NPP Decides : Alhaji Toiba’s Return Set Chairmanship Race Agog, Pundits Predict End Of Era For Chairman SB Kangberee

The political ecosystem within the Upper West Region is set to witness one of the fiercest internal elections in decades as Alhaji Toiba Mahama squares off against incumbent Chairman SB Kangberee within the Elephant fraternity.

The Chairmanship race leads the Regional contest that has many committed party stalwarts fronting for various party positions.

Known by his brand name Zam Zam, Alhaji Toiba Mahama is a household name in Upper West politics and a key figure within the New Patriotic Party.

His linkage to the grassroots and socializing prowess made him the choice of the average voter within the elephant fraternity.

His previous shot at the Chairmanship race hit a snag as he met a strong opposition in the incumbent Chairman SB Kangberee and other party bigwigs.

In his return trip to the ballot for the Chairmanship race, the euphoria appeared to have swung in his favour with the gods singing to his tunes.

The social media buzz and endorsement from party stalwarts set the stage agog thanks to indicators from the constituency elections.

Having lost most of his strong holds at the constituency level, the fortunes of Chairman SB Kangbaree dropped appreciably leaving room for a wild card triumph from Alhaji Zam Zam.

Of the 110 elected executives from the 11 constituencies, Chairman SB Kangbaree saw his voter pool dropping massively in a wind of change within the New Patriotic Party.

With six incumbent constituency Chairmen losing their seats to new comers or returnees, it is statistically safe to envisage defeat for the incumbent SB Kangbaree heading into the intra-party polls.

As typical of any NPP contest in the Upper West Region, the usual indicators that pop up from the camp of the winning team traded Kangbaree for Alhaji Toiba in what could be end of an era for the incumbent Chairman.

Leadership of the Party have been instructed to pick a substantive date from May 27-May 30 , 2022 for the Regional elections.

With some unfulfilled campaign promises from the incumbent chairman, delegates within the New Party Party raised red flags over the understanding of party structures and loyalty from the camp of the incumbent Chairman, SB Kangbaree.

A total of 265 delegates will elect the next regional executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Region.
