NADMO issues a Bagre Dam spill warning to communities

Communities along the White Volta have been advised to migrate to higher land by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Upper West Region to avoid any flood disaster.

They are further warned by NADMO Upper West to be on the lookout for hazards that could cause flooding disasters, especially in the towns that surround the white volta’s tributaries.

SONABEL, the management team in charge of the Bagre Dam will soon spill the dam due to the dam’s steadily rising level, according to a statement issued by the regional director, Ahmed Mustapha.

In light of the alert, NADMO-Upper West advised communities near river courses to take preventative precautions including forgoing activities close to the river.

“According to SONABEL, the spillage is pertinent dir to the increasing level of the dam. As of Wednesday, 31st August, 2022, the upstream level of the dam was 234.88m as against the maximum spillage level of 235m. The information further indicates that the water level of the Dam is increasing swiftly and the spill gate can be opened anytime soon.” the statement added.
