Confirmation of MMDCE’s in Upper West begins on Thursday

Municipal and District Assemblies in the Upper West Region will begin processes to confirm MMDCE nominees from Thursday, September 30th, 2021.

The Assemblies are expected to either confirm or reject the nominees in their respective jurisdictions.

The Regional Minister met the nominees last week to draw a schedule for the confirmation to take place across the 11 districts.

Other Regional Coordinating councils also have similar schedules for the confirmation of the various MMDCE’s appointed by president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.

Some assemblies such as the Gomoa West, Sawla-Tuna-kalba, Asokwa and Obuasi have already confirmed their nominees.

The confirmation of MMDCE’s in line with the 21 day ultimatum for such exercise to be done.

The Minister for local Government, Dan Botwe last Sunday announced the list of president Akufo Addo’s nominees to fill the 260 Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDCE’s).

Out of the 260, a total of 125 are MMDCE’s who have been retained while 135 were appointed for the first time.

In terms of gender distribution, 222 were males and 38 were females.
