Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin Pledges Support for Educational Infrastructure in the Upper West Region

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, embarked on a visit to his alma mater, Wa Senior High School, on Friday, 30th June 2023, to inspect the progress of the construction of an impressive 2,000-capacity Ultra-Modern Assembly Hall complex.

The esteemed Speaker is funding the ambitious project, which carries a price tag of over 12 million Ghana cedis (GHS 12,000,000.00).

The initiative is part of the school’s preparations for its 50th-anniversary celebration, having been established in 1970 and standing as one of the oldest secondary schools in the Upper West Region.

Once completed, this state-of-the-art assembly hall is set to become one of the largest and most comfortable facilities in the region. Not only will it cater to the current student population of 2000, but it will also greatly improve the learning environment and overall educational experience for students.

Addressing the students during the inspection ceremony, Rt. Hon. Bagbin emphasized the importance of academic dedication and hard work.

He urged the students to lay a solid foundation in their studies and strive to achieve greatness beyond his own achievements.

The Speaker recounted that during his time, resources were scarce, yet he and his peers managed to succeed through determination and perseverance.

Encouraging the students to aspire for a bright future, he assured them that with a dedication to their academic pursuits, they would find success in life.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress made so far, the third-highest-ranking official in the country praised the workmanship and dedication of the construction workers.

He also promised to support additional projects requested by the school’s Headmaster, including the installation of a much-needed Public Addressing system (PA system).

The lead consultant for the project, Mr. Juliute Saaka, confirmed that the construction is currently 28% complete, having commenced in February 2023.

Mr. Saaka reassured the Speaker that the project would be delivered on time, as per the scheduled completion deadline, set for 2024.

Mr. Adams Iddrisu Thirdman, the Headmaster of Wa Senior High School, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Speaker’s generous support in funding the assembly hall project.

However, he acknowledged that the school still faces challenges, such as the need for additional dormitories and other infrastructure.

The Headmaster took the opportunity to make another appeal to Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin for further assistance in addressing these pressing needs.

With the commitment and determination displayed by the Speaker and the project team, the Ultra-Modern Assembly Hall at Wa Senior High School is poised to become a beacon of educational excellence in the Upper West Region.

As the completion date approaches, the school eagerly awaits the realization of this transformative infrastructure, which promises to leave a lasting impact on generations of students to come.
