Sod cutting for the construction of Tumu-Han road to take place on May, 25

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih has revealed that work will soon start for the construction of the Tumu-Han road.

The Tumu-Han road is a transnational highway that facilitates bilateral trade between Ghana and neighboring countries such as Burkina Faso.

Prior to the 2016 elections, the road was awarded on contract in 2012 and was expected to be constructed and handed over in 2015.

The construction has since not been done and the road has become unmotorable which poses danger to commuters as well as drivers.

The bad nature of the road has caused accidents with several cars breaking down along the stretch while most drivers complain of financial lost due to the wear and tear suffered by their cars.

In his usual updates on social media, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih announced on Facebook that the sod cutting for the construction of the Tumu-Han road will take place on Wednesday, 25th May, 2022 in Tumu.

The Upper West Region has a total road network of 3,607km out of which about 540km was paved and 344km at both gravelled and earth stages. The Roads Minister further disclosed that 61% of roads under the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) were good, while 38% are fair and 1% are in poor conditions. Under the Department of Urban Roads on the other hand, 30% of its roads were considered to be good, 7% fair and 63% are in poor conditions.

There are approximately 72,000km of roads in the country out of which 23% had been asphalted with 39% in good condition while the rest are classified as fair or poor.
