For the records, Hon Fuseini Batong Yakubu was appointed Financial secretary of the NPP in 2003 and was reappointed Financial secretary in 2005. He served the party faithfully in this capacity up to 2009.
He was elected constituency Chairman in 2009 and he served faithfully in this capacity for four years and was reelected constituency chairman in 2013 for another four year term. He led the party as constituency chairman to win the seat for the first time in 2016.
In 2017 as the sitting constituency chairman he applied to be DCE but was not shortlisted to attend the final vetting in Accra but nobody heard him complaining. He went ahead to step down as the constituency chairman and supported the election of Suara Bakuri Tahiru as the new constituency Chairman.
The Suara Bakuri Tahiru led executives appointed him as a member of the Council of elders and in the run up to the 2020 general elections I appointed him as an advisor to the campaign team among other people who were appointed to support the campaign.
The interesting thing is that when he was first elected constituency chairman, I was elected as his secretary and Alhassan Duani Amin as Assistant secretary and Suara Tahiru Bakuri as a member of the Council of patrons. When he was reelected as chairman in 2013, Benin Sulemani was elected alongside as the secretary and Robert Atta Asemonu as Assistant secretary. The point here is most of us in the front line of NPP today served under Hon Fuseini Yakubu Batong as his subordinates.
I have no problem with anyone ambition but to suggest that someone has suffered or served this party in the constituency to the extend that Hon Fuseini Yakubu Batong do not deserve an appointment except him is quite unfortunate.
This is not the first time we have experienced competition for the position of MCE and certainly will not be the last but it is normal that when one is appointed by the president, other competitors may feel disappointed but not to the extreme.
Leaders will come and go but the reality of the true character of a leader will not be determined by one person based on personal feelings. Anyone of those who put themselves up for the position of MCE in Sissala East deserves it but under the circumstances the president can only appoint one person.
