Ken Ofori Atta lacks the credibility to lead Ghana into IMF Negotiations – John Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has asked the President Nana Akufo-Addo to replace the current Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Attah immediately before the country goes to IMF for a bailout.

John Dramani Mahama among many other Ghanaians has called on the Government to go to the IMF for a bailout to support the crisis-ridden Ghanaian economy.

The President of the Republic of Ghana in a letter on 1st July 2022 asked the country’s Finance Minister to commence formal negotiations with IMF to support the Economic program of the Government.

John Mahama said the directive of the President to the Finance Minister is welcoming but should have been done earlier.

He, however, noted that the current Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta has lost the credibility and trust of the investors and should not lead Ghana into the IMF program.

“The Finance Minister who has supervised the disastrous collapse of the economy cannot and should not be part of the team of negotiators. He has lost credibility and the trust and confidence of stakeholders in our economy.

President Akufo-Addo must take a bold decision to replace his finance minister immediately with a more assured and competent person who is willing and able to work tirelessly to turn our almost hopeless situation around ” – John Dramani Mahama

The Former President also called on the sitting President to dissolve the Economic Management Team led by the Vice President, Dr Alhaj Mahamud Bawumia.
