Warehouse in DBI destroyed by rainstorm

By Albert Dapare

A warehouse constructed by the Government of Ghana (GOG) in Busie, a town in the Dafiama Busie Issa district of the Upper West region has had several portions destroyed by a rain storm.

The warehouse which was constructed by Lubie Construction Limited had part of its roof ripped off and it’s gates severely damaged.

Home Radio news can confirm that the warehouse in its current state cannot serve its purpose as the room is filled with water due to the damage.

Our sources at the district office of agriculture in the DBI district, reveals that the project was handed over to the district assembly in December, 2020 before the parliamentary and general elections.

The warehouse in Busie is part of the government’s initiative of one district one warehouse to enhance food security.

It is unclear wether the assembly would have to repair the damage at it’s own cost or the Lubie construction Ltd would have to bear the cost of repairs.

According to the Director of Agriculture at the DBI district, Nicholas Tiereke, the disaster happened in March 2021 and steps taken to get the warehouse fixed did not yield results.

“I was called by the agric extension agent who is stationed in Busie that part of the roof of the warehouse has been ripped off by rain storm. So the next day I visited the scene and I realized that that was the situation. I took pictures of it and made a report to the district assembly and to the regional Agric Director. After which, some few weeks, the consultant and the contractor in charge of it were brought to the site which we met again. And then, they promised us of fixing the problem when they go back, they will get the contractor who is in charge of that to fix the problem.” The District Agric officer reveals.
