President Commissions GHS 5.1m Water Supply System at Hamile

The Hamile-Happa Small Town Water Supply Project was commissioned by the President, Nana Akufo Addo in Hamile in the Upper West Region as part of his campaign tour.

Addressing the Chiefs and People of Hamile, the president said the project which commenced in 2017 will provide water to some 13,920 people in the area.

According to the president, the sustainable rural water project has been financed with a credit facility from the Bank of Ghana.

The project according to the president has components such as the construction of pipe water supply system, support for household latrine construction, hygiene education and environment and social safeguard.

He said the rural water project has been implemented successfully in 10 other regions with some 432,609 people benefiting from the project.

This according to him was to increase access to potable water for all in fulfillment of the NPP’s commitment of water for all.

The president added that the Community Water and Sanitation (CWSA) is also on course to construct 10 more pipe water systems in the region under the next face of the World Bank funding facility.

He also said the government has not relented in efforts to scale up the availability of good sanitation systems in the Upoer West Region

“The CWSA is facilitating for the construction of 5,335 household latrines in the region in addition to 2,014 new latrines have been provided to ensure the communities have access to improved latrines.” he said

The president observed that the region has attained open deification free status in 104 communities s a result of this intervention.

The people were appreciative to the president for the water project and assured of taking good care of the project.

The Hamile-Happa small town Pipe water system has been built with GHS 5.1m and will provide a total of 168,444 gallons of water for 13,930 people.

The Upper West Region has also benefited from the drilling and construction of 250 boreholes to improve access to potable water in 240 communities in five districts namely Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, Sissala West, Lawra, Jirapa and Nandom Municipality.
