Feature : Same Birthdays , Different Celebrants-The Case Of Grassroots Vrs People in Power

Birthday celebrations are platforms to thank the Almighty God for another successful year under His mercies. They are platforms to show gratitude to the Lord of the Universe for granting us another 365 days of life. From the camp of political figures and national icons, they are avenues to show togetherness and celebrate the success stories of these figures. The current euphoria in the camp of the New Patriotic Party painted a picture of visible crack within the elephant family.

Born on same months and in same week on different years, the battle of Alan and Bawumia showed no sign of ending anytime soon. As the senior and the most experienced of the two, Hon Alan Kyerematen was born on October 3, 1955 whiles his younger brother , HE Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia shared same October with him. The Veep was born on October 7, 1963, some 8 years apart. Their impact on the NPP and Ghana as a whole made them national icons irrespective of when they joined the political space.

Celebrations of their birthdays in recent years have raised some visible cracks within the elephant family thanks to the external influence of government machinery. The quest to use their birthdays as a benchmark for their affection within the elephant family has been largely politicized in recent times. With social media buzzing for the last week with birthday wishes for the two political figures, one is forced to asked , what lessons were learnt from these messages?

In the case of HE Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, government machinery took over the project as though it was a government policy. The celebration became a government project on a day when we should be salvaging our people. A cursory look at the faces that ganged to celebrate the birthday of the Veep needs no explanation as to what the motive was. Was it a hatched plan to paint an artificial love within the elephant family? Why would a whole government machinery team up to celebrate the birthday of the Veep if the man has that deep love as we are made to believe? Is there something unknown to the ordinary Ghanaian?

On his part as the Trade and Industry Minsiter, Hon Alan Kyerematen opted for a low key celebration of his birthday despite the social media buzz from the grass roots. The love from the ordinary grass root voter within the elephant family. The true love from the camp of NPP with no financial motive or national budget confirmed his true colors . Can you imagine a sponsored birthday celebration of Hon. Alan Kyerematen adding to the natural love? The sense of urgency and humane feelings informed the Trade and Industry Minister to lowly marked his 63rd birthday.

The utter silence of HE Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on the birthday celebration of Hon Alan Kyerematen despite the latter’s routine celebration of the former and his wife Mrs Samira Bawumia however confirmed clandestine agenda murmured out there. Like seen in the caption , it was the same birthday celebration but who actually celebrated these figures ? Remember party gave birth to government and the choice of the party must be supreme.
