Jirapa Kingmakers Commence Final Rites for Late Chief, New Coronation Set for Dec 30

The Tindambas of Jirapa have unanimously endorsed Regent, Naa Justice Donglabong Dinaah as the 5th paramount chief of Jirapa, succeeding Naa Ansolee Ganaa II, marking a historic milestone for the community.

On Tuesday, 12th December 2023, a group of influential figures, drawn from diverse royal lineages like Zokyieri, Konkuoyiri, Kyobaari, Wuoyiri, Veveri Naahuyiri, Tampoe yiri, and Dau-uriyiri, announced that Naa Justice Dinaah Donglabong is the favored candidate to take over from the previous chief.

Speaking to the media after performing the initial rituals, Mr. Anthony Doodah, a spokesperson for the Tendambas indicated that ”We have already come out with a successor who is Justice Naa Donglabong Dinaah and he will be outdoored on December 30, 2023.”

In his response, Naa Justice Dinaah Donglabong indicated that “I am humbled by the decision by the Tendambas just like I was humbled when my elder brother Naa Ansolee Ganaa II appointed or nominated me as his personal secretary, so it is today that the Tendamba after this ritual finds it prudent to nominate me as the successor.”

Naa Justice who is in charge of cultural and language studies at the Ghana Education Service in Jirapa said it is his wish to reconstruct the collapsed old palace to go back to its old glory.

Rituals are performed every year by the kingmakers for the dead and to putrify the land.

This year, the rituals were performed for fifteen people who passed away including the late chief, Naa Ansolee Ganaa II.

Families that lost their relatives in the course of the year were required to present rams or money for the rituals.

Three families were able to present rams while the others provided money and the rams were tied with a rope against a hoe handle for men while a stick was used in the case of a female.

The rams were killed and shared amongst the kingmakers while the millet provided by the families would be given to the wives of the bereaved to be used to brew pito.

The 41-year-old Justice Donglabong Dinaah will be enskinned as Naa Dinaa Donglabong Ganaa III.
