Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw Champions Solutions for Water Challenges In Duccie

Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, the Member of Parliament for Wa East since 2021, has been actively addressing the dire water crisis in Duccie.

The community previously benefited from boreholes and a solar water system installed by former MP, Hon. Godfrey Bayon Tangu in the early 2000s to combat the guinea worm pandemic and provide potable water.

However, these facilities deteriorated over time and were neglected by subsequent leaders, leading to a resurgence of the water crisis.

Dr. Jasaw, recognizing the urgent need for intervention, allocated over Ghc60,000 in 2021 to revamp the solar water system.

Despite these efforts, the system failed within a year, prompting Dr. Jasaw to explore alternative solutions. He attempted to drill a new borehole, but unfortunately, it did not yield water either.

Undeterred by these setbacks, Dr. Jasaw remained committed to finding a sustainable solution to the water crisis plaguing Duccie.

Responding to community appeals, Dr. Jasaw mobilized resources to reclaim a washed-away dam, crucial for catering to the community’s agricultural and livestock needs.

This initiative demonstrated Dr. Jasaw’s holistic approach to addressing the challenges faced by Duccie residents, beyond just water access.

In addition to these efforts, Dr. Jasaw undertook a comprehensive assessment of the remaining boreholes installed by Hon. Tangu, many of which had been abandoned for years.

Recognizing the importance of reliable water sources, Dr. Jasaw took proactive measures to ensure their restoration.

With the support of Alhaji Yakubu Salifu and a dedicated team, Dr. Jasaw provided complete sets of new materials for two boreholes and enlisted the expertise of an engineer to oversee their refurbishment.

This initiative not only addressed immediate water needs but also laid the foundation for long-term water sustainability in Duccie.

The successful restoration of the boreholes and the ongoing efforts to reclaim the dam have brought immense relief to the residents of Duccie.

The community’s gratitude towards Dr. Jasaw is evident, with elders and women expressing confidence in his leadership and likening him to Hon. Tangu who was revered for his dedication to the welfare of the community.
