The Bawku Naba, Zug-Raan Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, has expressed sincere appreciation for the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno’s principled response to recent unrest in Bawku. The IGP’s visit to the conflict-prone area and pledge to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of one individual and injuries to several others have been hailed as a significant gesture of state engagement.

The Kusaug Traditional Council, led by the Bawku Naba, has welcomed the IGP’s commitment to transparency, justice, and lasting peace. In a statement signed by the Council’s Secretary, Mr. David Adoliba, the traditional authority acknowledged the symbolic and practical importance of the IGP’s presence, describing it as a demonstration of his dedication to transparency and accountability.

The Bawku Naba’s commendation is a notable development, given the longstanding tensions in the area. The traditional council has consistently called for dialogue and reconciliation, and the IGP’s visit has been seen as a reaffirmation of the police service’s resolve to restore order and rebuild trust.

In the statement, the Kusaug Traditional Council urged the youth to remain calm and trust the justice system, emphasizing the need for constructive engagement to resolve the conflict. The council also appealed to the IGP to deploy police personnel to resume their normal duties in Kusaug, signaling confidence in the current leadership of the Ghana Police Service and the community’s desire to return to normalcy.

This development marks a significant step towards peacebuilding in Bawku, and the alliance between traditional authority and security leadership offers a potential blueprint for resolving conflicts in Ghana’s northern hotspots. The Bawku Naba’s endorsement of the IGP’s message of inclusive peacebuilding underscores the importance of collective action and dialogue in achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
