The Private Security Guard Association has made a passionate appeal to the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment for government intervention in addressing the dire working conditions faced by private security personnel across the country.

On Monday, April 14, 2025, the Association’s President and Vice President paid a courtesy call on the Minister, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, to formally present their concerns. They were received by the Director for Finance and Administration of the Ministry, who expressed gratitude for the visit and assured them of the Ministry’s commitment to engaging key stakeholders.

During the meeting, the Association outlined key challenges affecting their members. These included long working hours typically 12-hour shifts poor remuneration, lack of insurance coverage, and the absence of leave entitlements. Despite having their SSNIT contributions regularly paid, many private security guards reportedly go without any form of health or life insurance, leaving them vulnerable in the event of accidents or medical emergencies.

“Our members are committed to their duties, yet they are among the most neglected in terms of welfare and protections,” the President of the Association said. “We believe the Ministry can play a critical role in shaping policy to improve the lives of thousands of private security guards in Ghana.”

Responding to their concerns, The Minister, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo thanked the Association for the visit and for drawing attention to these important issues. He urged the group to submit an official letter to the Ministry outlining their concerns in detail, which would enable the Ministry to begin the necessary processes to support them.
