The Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, has been arrested in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct, Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has revealed.
The Minister disclosed this when he appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, explaining that the case had been escalated from the regional level to Police Headquarters for further investigation.
According to Mr Muntaka, the matter came to his attention on September 7, following a report received by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). He subsequently directed that the investigation be handled at the national level.
He said investigators were exploring the use of DNA evidence to support their inquiries. However, the Minister noted that the collection of DNA samples would require a court order in accordance with the law.
Mr Muntaka confirmed that the headmaster had been arrested and was being taken through the due process of the law as investigations continued.
He emphasised that the allegations had not yet been proven and that the suspect remained presumed innocent until proven guilty. He added that the headmaster would have the opportunity to respond to the allegations as the investigation progressed.
