The government will suspend new applications for recruitment into Ghana’s security services in 2027 to prioritise qualified candidates who were unable to proceed to training due to limited capacity.
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, announced the decision when he appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20. He said the recruitment portal would remain closed to new applicants next year as authorities work to clear the backlog of candidates who successfully completed the selection process but could not be admitted for training.
According to the minister, the decision follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama to give priority to candidates who have already met the recruitment requirements.
Mr Muntaka explained that the government would continue selecting eligible candidates from the existing list until the backlog was exhausted, after which fresh applications could be considered.
The decision means prospective applicants hoping to join the security services in 2027 will have to wait, while previously qualified candidates will be considered as training spaces become available.
