The former District Chief Executive for the Wa West District, Hon. Dasaana N.S. Adamu, has come to the aid of an amputated BECE student from Dorimon D/A JHS by donating a wheelchair and other essential educational materials to help him pursue his senior high school education at the Wa Technical Institute. The 19-year-old boy, Kofi David, had both of his legs amputated following a tragic electrocution incident in 2023.
Hon. Dasaana, who also serves as the Upper West Regional Free Senior High School Coordinator, noted in his speech prior to the presentation that he first learned of the boy’s situation through media reports when the incident occurred. He subsequently visited him during his admission at the Upper West Regional Hospital. After enduring immense challenges at the hospital, the boy survived, though both of his legs had to be amputated. Showing remarkable resilience, he later returned to complete his JHS education and successfully sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Although he passed, he initially lost the desire to further his education. However, through the timely intervention of the former DCE, the young man has now been placed at the Wa Technical Institute to study Computer Hardware Technology.
In his capacity as the Regional Coordinator for the Free Senior High School program, Hon. Dasaana seized the opportunity to appeal to the Ministry of Education and the government to provide disability-friendly facilities in public schools to better accommodate such students. Furthermore, he pledged his unwavering commitment to supporting the boy throughout his educational journey and encouraged him to study diligently for a bright future career.
The Principal of the Wa Technical Institute, Mr. Saaka Adams, who warmly received the boy on behalf of the teaching staff, promised to ensure that he is entirely comfortable within the school environment. He added that Technical and Vocational Education is inherently inclusive, ensuring that students with special needs have equal access to education without any form of discrimination.
Mr. Tanye Danyi, the boy’s uncle, expressed profound gratitude for the generous support and life-changing intervention from the former District Chief Executive for the Wa West District.
