The Upper West Regional Police Command has dismantled a suspected motorbike theft syndicate, arresting several individuals and recovering 17 stolen motorbikes in the Wa Municipality and surrounding areas.
The operation was launched after a victim reported her black Luojia motorbike (registration M-21-UW 3512) stolen on July 11, 2026, from the Ghana National Fire Service premises in Jirapa. Acting on intelligence, officers arrested Nasiru Muftawu in possession of the stolen bike at Loho. During interrogation, he confessed to the theft and provided information that led to further arrests.
Those arrested include Basit Muftawu (also known as Posey, 19), Issahaku Maruf (alias Katel, 22), and Mohammed Ali (alias Geewaa, 18). Additional suspects linked to the operation are Rashid Kankan (20), Mutala Rashad (20), and Haruna Hamdan (alias DJ, 20).
Police recovered 16 more stolen motorbikes from locations including UBIDS, Chakor, and Glamon within the Wa Municipality.
The suspects have been arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court and remanded into police custody. They are scheduled to reappear in court on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The Regional Police Command, led by DCOP Mr. Francis Yiribaare, has urged members of the public who have lost motorbikes to report to the Wa District Police Headquarters with valid ownership documents for identification and retrieval. Authorities emphasized their commitment to combating crime and called for continued public cooperation with timely information.
