The Wa Municipal Assembly, under the leadership of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Nurah Issah Danwaana, has disbursed a total of GH¢179,350.00 from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) for Persons with Disabilities to support 49 beneficiaries across the municipality.
The support forms part of the Assembly’s commitment to promoting the socio-economic empowerment and inclusion of persons with disabilities by providing financial assistance and productive equipment to improve their livelihoods.
Beneficiaries received various items and financial support tailored to their individual needs and vocational interests. These included refrigerators, hairdressing machines, laptops, sewing machines, and other income-generating equipment, as well as educational and health support.
Out of the 49 beneficiaries, 33 received support for business and income-generating activities, five received educational assistance, seven benefited from health-related support, three received assistance for agro-processing activities, while one beneficiary received support for assistive construction, bringing the total amount disbursed to GH¢179,350.00.
The initiative is expected to enhance the economic independence of beneficiaries, improve access to education and healthcare, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for persons with disabilities within the municipality.
Hon. Alhaji Nurah Issah Danwaana reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities are empowered through targeted interventions that promote self-reliance, social inclusion, and equal participation in local development, noting that the Assembly will continue to prioritize initiatives that improve the quality of life of vulnerable groups across the municipality.
