Ken Ofori Atta’s Databank bagged GHS159.31million profit as Government Transactions Advisors – Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

Databank, a bank founded and owned by Ghana’s Finance Minister has made a profit of GHS 159.31 million on its transaction advisor role on bonds issued from 2017-2021.

This is according to the Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, MP for North Tong Constituency Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

He accused the Finance Minister of destroying Ghana’s Economy and conflict of interest while his Databank was accruing profits from government contracts.

He revealed that while Government keeps blaming Covid-19 for the current economic crisis, Mr Ken Ofori Atta’s Databank accumulated more than Ghs 105 million as profits from 2020 and 2021.

“While Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was destroying the Ghanaian economy, he made sure his own businesses profited massively like never before from our miseries; with utter disregard for basic conflict of interest rules.

According to his own reluctant response to a parliamentary question last week — Databank earned an astonishing GHS159.31million on its transaction advisor role on bonds issued from 2017-2021.

It is most instructive to note that despite what they tell the Ghanaian people about the adverse economic effects of COVID-19; 2020 and 2021 put together were the best years for his private fortune as he accumulated more than GHS105million – Samuel Okuzdeto Ablakwa

Meanwhile, Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on the President to replace Ken Ofori Atta as Minister of Finance
