President John Dramani Mahama has endorsed the decision of the Waala Traditional Council to relocate Tendamba Primary School to make way for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market in the Wa Municipality.
Speaking at the Four Court of Wa Naa Fuseini Pelpuo IV during the launch of the Shea Park Resources Hub in Wa, the President stated that the proposed 24-Hour Economy Market is intended to serve the Wa Naa and his people, and therefore, the final decision on its location rests with them.
“The market is supposed to be located in the heart of the Central Business District (CBD). If you like, you can also decide to build your own at Bamahu,” President Mahama remarked.
The siting of the 24-Hour Economy Market has generated controversy in the municipality, following objections raised by Supreme Court Judge, Justice Yuoni Kulendi, to the relocation of Tendamba Primary School to the Tendamba Junior High School facility.
President Mahama’s remarks are widely seen as lending strong support to the earlier position taken by the Waala Traditional Council, which approved the relocation of the school to pave the way for the market project. His statement has further reinforced the traditional authority’s role in determining development priorities within the municipality.
The 24-Hour Economy Market is a key component of the government’s broader economic agenda aimed at boosting local commerce and employment through round-the-clock economic activity.
