Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has expressed surprise at the outcome of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race in his constituency, where Kennedy Agyapong failed to secure victory.
Speaking to journalists after Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerged winner in Nhyiaeso, Dr Amoah said he had expected Kennedy Agyapong to dominate the polls, given the level of work put in by his campaign team.
“It’s very surprising because I thought Kennedy was going to win by about 60 percent,” Dr Amoah said.
“The campaign team had done a lot of work, so we were expecting a win.”
Despite those expectations, the results from the constituency showed Dr Bawumia leading the race among delegates.
Nhyiaeso Constituency Results (NPP Flagbearer Race):
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia – 379 votes
Kennedy Agyapong – 321 votes
Bryan Agyapong – 91 votes
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum – 4 votes
Kwabena Agyapong – 0 votes
A total of 889 delegates were eligible to vote in the constituency.
Dr Amoah’s comments reflect the surprise among some party members in Nhyiaeso, where expectations ahead of the polls did not align with the final outcome.
