The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih has bemoaned the insufficient supply of planting for food and jobs fertilizer to farmers in the region.

He feared the planting for food and jobs Programme may be hampered due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

He made this known in a general meeting organized by the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council (UWRCC) on Wednesday, 20th July, 2022 at the Wa Regional Library.

Dr Hafiz Bin Salih stated that the ordinary farmer in the region cannot afford a mini bag of fertilizer this year which is pegged at GHS 160 as against last year when the fertilizer was subsidized by GHS 30 while the farmer paid GHS 40.

He further revealed that a total of 1,442.4 metric tons of seeds of crops such as maize, rice, soya, sorghum, cowpea and groundnut have been received and distributed to farmers under the planting for good and jobs programme.

He however indicated that more fertilizer and seeds are still expected to arrive in the region.
