MPs Must Shift Away from Just Saying No and Speaking based on Convenience – Issahaku Chinnia

Member of Parliament for Sissala East Constituency and Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources Hon. Issahaku Amidu Chinnia has called on members of Ghana’s parliament to shift away from just saying no to policies and speaking based on convenience to the disservice of the countries development.

Hon. Amidu Chinnia made the remarks on Home Radio on Friday 28th January 2022 as he called on Ghanaians to accept the E-Levy introduced by the government in the 2022 budget read by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.

According to the Sissala East MP, the E- Levy is a good progressive tax that would fasten the economic development of Ghana.

The levy since its introduction has generated strong opposition from the Minority in Parliament and some sections of Ghanaians.

Hon. Chinnia lamented that Parliamentarians must shift away from saying no to policies out of convenience, which goes to delay the countries growth.

He said ” when VAT was introduced we the NPP oppose it, but when we got power we did not remove it when we brought “talk tax” the NDC opposed when they won the elections, did they withdraw it? “.

He added that we speak based on convenience and that must be discouraged.
