Wa West: MP Supports Girls in Skills Training

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa West Constituency, Hon. Peter Lanchene, has supported the training of four young girls from across the constituency in dress-making and weaving. This initiative is part of his drive to empower the youth and make their lives meaningful to themselves and society.

The support included the donation of a sewing machine to one beneficiary to continue her skills training program, as well as a financial contribution of GHC 1000.00 to each of the three other girls to start their weaving training programs.

During a short reception held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the MP expressed his eagerness to see these four young women acquire skills and trades that would make them economically self-supporting, given their challenging circumstances. He noted that the trainees were selected by a local women’s group in the district, which had identified their urgent need for support.

The MP took the opportunity to thank the women’s group for their support in the 2020 elections and assured them that he would continue to prioritize the needs of the people, particularly women and youth. He emphasized his determination to build a society that works for everyone in the district.

Furthermore, the MP called on the public to strongly support the NDC government, led by John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming general elections. He highlighted the government’s carefully thought-out interventions and programs aimed at improving the lives of the population.

Madam Kanwiah Salamatu, the group leader of the women, expressed her profound gratitude to the MP for his kind gesture. She lamented the suffering of young girls in the district, which often leads to teenage and unwanted pregnancies.

The four beneficiaries were visibly excited about the support they received from the Member of Parliament.
