UWRCC opens a book of condolence for former president Rawlings

The Upper West Regional Coordinating Council has opened a book of condolence for former president Jerry John Rawlings.

The book of condolence, which is opened at the conference hall of the UWRCC on Thursday is part of activities to give the late president a befitting farewell.

Distinguished personalities led by the regional minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih trooped to the conference hall to pay their last respect to the late former president.

Speaking to the media on the side lines, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih said signing the book is part of activities earmarked by the president to mourn the demise of former president Jerry John Rawlings.

“A few days ago we lost one of our former president and HE Nana Akufo Addo has declared this period to mourn Jerry John Rawlings. Today, the Upper West Region has also opened a book of condolence, so I am here together with my deputy Amidu Chinia, Members of the Security Council as well as MMDCE’s to sign the book in honor of Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings.” he indicated

According to him, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings occupies a very important place in the history of the Upper West Region because he created the region in 1983 and therefore “we owe him a duty to mourn and to bid him farewell.”

Asked about memories of the fallen hero, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih noted that he would not have been a Regional Minister if Rawlings has not created the region.

The Regional Minister who was the first to sign the book wrote: You created the Upper West Region in January 1983, for this reason, you will remain in the thoughts of the people of the region. Rest In Peace Flt Lt Rawlings.

The deputy Regional Minister, Amidu Chinia Issahaku, Members of REGSEG, Municipal and District Chief Executives were the next to ink words of condolence for the former president.

According to a schedule released by the protocol department of the UWRCC, Traditional and Religious leaders including the general public will have their turn from Friday to Monday.
