UWR: Zoomlion Ltd starts second phase of disinfection in Basic Schools

Zoomlion Ghana Limited in collaboration with the Education Ministry has started the second phase of the disinfection of Basic and Second cycle institutions as part of preparations towards the partial reopening of schools in the Upper West Region.

Speaking to media on Saturday 26th September, 2020, the Upper West Regional General Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mr Emmanuel Volsuuri, said the exercise is targeting to deactivate viruses and other harmful bacteria on high risk areas to make the campuses safe.

“The concentration is on the high risk areas such as door knobs, surfaces of tables and furniture.” he noted

According to him, Forty Seven Senior High Schools (SHS) and Seven Hundred and Seventy Six (776 ) Basic Schools will benefit from the disinfection exercise in the Upper West Region.

He said the exercise is scheduled to end on October 3, and therefore pointed out that more than half of the number of schools have already been disinfected in the region.

Mr Volsuuri said the company is making every effort to disinfect all the schools and mentioned the rainy season as a major challenge in accessing some of the schools in the rural areas.

He added that disinfection is not a permanent solution to the spread of COVID-19 and urged the school authorities as well as the students to continue to observe the safety protocols to complement the disinfection exercise.

The Senior House Master of Wa Islamic SHS, Mr. Abukari Aminu, indicated that the school has taken delivery of their share of PPE and its expecting Seven Hundred and Fifteen (715) students on campus.

He described the disinfection exercise as important because it will reduce or minimize the risk of contracting the disease on campus.

According to him, the school has procured some weedicides to be applied on the weeds that has over grown the campus.
